Satellite Operations Engineer will be responsible for conducting mission operations IAW established operating plans, procedures and detailed checklists to be used to support the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Near-Field Infrared Experiment (NFIRE) satellite; and, eventually, other MDA spacecraft using the AFSCN for primary support. Candidates will participate in initial spacecraft training towards satisfactory completion of a positional certification evaluation. Candidates will participate in Missile Defense Space Experimentation Center (MDSEC) training and procedures maintenance, and comply with all recurring MDSEC training requirements.

Candidates will directly support MDSEC data collection preparation activities and event rehearsals. Candidates will coordinate with the Universal Space Network (USN) to schedule independent USN passes for high-speed data retrieval. Candidates will assist in the distribution of all collected data to MDA customers. Customer interaction, presentation, and writing skills are required. Travel for training and coordination activities may be required. MDSEC is currently planned to operate 24/7. Candidates will be required to work shifts.

Requirements:
Experience monitoring spacecraft telemetry for SOH or analysis. Experience developing or executing spacecraft command plans. Willingness to work 24/7 shift schedule.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 8 years experience in spacecraft operations
  • Past SSO and GSO certification to conduct AFSCN satellite supports
  • Experience in developing daily AFSCN pass plans
  • Experience operating a DCC terminal or as a DCC SA
  • Experience in operating ESD terminal systems
  • Experience with command and control of low-earth orbiting (LEO) spacecraft
  • Knowledge in developing and conducting operator certification training
  • Skilled in developing operational documentation such as OPLANs, OIs and checklists
  • Knowledgeable of STK, FreeFlyer or equivalent tools for mission planning
  • Knowledge of the function of satellite subsystems and payloads
  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree
